I had been given rave reviews of this little cafe. When you walk in, there is a bar right there and can be noisy. The staff can be a little inattentive, it took 8 minutes for us to be seated and the place wasn't very busy. Their menu is what many people would call "eclectic" or "fusion". I wasn't impressed with the food. I think they went too far with trying to have many different items. I like unique in a restaurant, but I don't like it when an establishment is different just for the sake of being different rather than being passionate about what they are serving. It's loud and there isn't really any parking other than right out front. Luckily for us we live about 7 blocks away so it's a short nice walk for us.I'd go back only if someone in a dinner party or a guest visiting wanted to go.

The Salvation Cafe attracted you with its artful sign, and it draws you in with an eclectic atmosphere, stocked bar, and impressive menu. The SC is probably my favorite spot in Newport - its slightly off the beaten path, so the tourists and college students are not there in flocks. Service is great, both at the bar and for dining. Sunday brunch provides very generous portions, and its so good that you'll likely be licking your plate. Dinner has a more extensive, and equally delicious selection of foods. Their Malai Kofta is a great find, but it seems impossible to go wrong with any choice. Dessert is a must here; the banana purses will blow your mind.
